2016-2017 Season Performance Review: Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Published on: 28 May 2017

Pre-Season Timothy Fosu-Mensah featured in the first friendly against Wigan and played all of the first-half. The young Dutchman did not feature in the other two pre-season matches against Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray.

Start of the Season Fosu-Mensah featured 5 times in 2016 for Manchester United. The young Dutchman started in the EFL Cup match against Northampton Town and in the Europa League against Zorya. He went on to make two more substitute appearances against Fenerbache and Zorya in the Europa League, as well as an appearance in the Premier League match against Swansea.

Mid Season At the start of the year, the defender only featured twice. He was a substitute in the FA Cup match against Reading and made the start in the next FA Cup match against Wigan. After these two appearances, Fosu-Mensah did not feature until April.

End of the Season The defender had 3 substitute appearances as the season was winding down. He suffered an injury in the Manchester Derby that kept him out until the final game of the season. Fosu-Mensah played all 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on the final game of the season. He played well when he did feature this season but next year Jose Mourinho may put him out on loan in order to get some playing time.

Overall Stats Fosu-Mensah had a quiet season and only featured 11 times. The Dutchman did not score any goals or have any assists and will look ahead to next season to try and make a larger impact for the first team.
