Abbey Pobee lashes out at GFA over sanctions against Hearts

Controversial football administrator, Jonathan Abbey Pobee, has stirred another controversy by chastising the Ghana Football Association(GFA) for delaying in sanctioning Accra Hearts of Oak for the rowdy scenes at the Accra Sports Stadium during their league game against Wa All Stars.

The veteran football administrator and a critic of the FA was disgusted by the undue delay by the football governing body to punish the Phobians as recommended by the Okudzeto Commission that investigated the May 9 stadium disaster.

Mr Pobee contended that had the FA acted swiftly it would have denied Hearts the opportunity to play in front of their fans against their arch rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko and that would have sent a signal to all other clubs.

However, he said the FA looked on and allowed the Phobians to further play two home matches before admnistering its punishment .

"What would the FA say if lives had been lost in those two matches had the fans displayed similar violent conduct?” he asked.

He recounted that Ebusua Dwarfs and Gold Stars were once punished immediately after they were found guilty in similar acts and believed the same alacrity should have been used in dealing with the Hearts case.

"Why should the Disciplinary Committee allow Hearts to play two matches before handing them the sanction?” he queried and referred to the decision as a bad precedent which could destroy the game in the country.

He suggested that all the members of the FA who benefited from the ex-gratia must be put to work by being distributed across the league centres as independent observers to submit reports to the FA on matches each week.
