Former Ghanaian FIFA Referee Mercy Tagoe is worried about the future of Ghanaian referees following the life ban of the nation’s top notch referee Joseph Lamptey.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee today decided to ban Joseph Odartei Lamptey from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level for life.

Lamptey was found guilty of breaching the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal on November 12, 2016.

Mercy Tagoe, who has officiated at the 2010 FIFA Women's World Cup and other international competitions, believes the ban on Lamotey will affect other Ghanaian referees internationally.

She further went on to describe the latest development in an interview with Starr FM as a misfortune.

“Its a misfortune because to err is human so i was expecting that they will temper justice with mercy but its unfortunate that he is been banned”

“Its really going to affect our Referees and tarnish the image of Ghana football ad refereeing as well and it will affect us in our selection to these international matches”

“When i was there, i managed to attend some international games but with development,if will affect every FIFA Referee we have in Ghana”She told Starr FM
