Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu says his national team colleague and captain Asamoah Gyan is not affiliated to any political party in Ghana following comments that the Shangai SIPG striker is funding the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On Monday, a political talk show host named Mugabe Masse alleged that Gyan is funding the NPP ahead of the general elections in November and has shipped branded T-shirts, cutlasses and other items from his base in China.

Agyemang Badu who has been with Gyan in the Black Stars for some time now in reacting to the story noted the comments from the radio presenter was just unfortunate and that people should not place prominence on it.

“It is unfortunate the presenter made that report,” Badu told Happy FM.

"Gyan is not into politics; he is just a footballer. We all know the good works he is doing in Ghana - he is a philanthropist.

"He is helping people in the country and I don’t know why someone will wake up and say he is doing politics.

"I will urge Ghanaians to throw their support behind Gyan.”
