Alhassan Wakaso insists Lorient could have done more to stay up

Lorient midfielder Alhassan Wakaso believes his side could have done more to avoid relegation in the playoffs against Troyes.

Lorient were relegated after losing 2-1 on aggregate against the Ligue 2 side.

Following their 0-0draw at home to Troyes their relegation got confirmed. A goal at home could have ensure their Ligue 1 stay.

“We didn’t take the game [second leg of the playoffs] serious enough,” he told FootballMadeInGhana.com.

“We had gone away and gotten beat 2-1 but we had an away goal but the return encounter was bad for us.

“The team did not perform the way we wanted and that cost us.

“So I will agree that based on the performance, we deserved to go down.”

Alhassan Wakao joined Lorient in January but his efforts were not enough to help the club avoid relegation. The midfielder is at the club with fellow Ghanaian Abdul Majeed Waris.

Fellow Ghanaian striker Abdul Majeed Waris was also part of the Lorient team that went down to Troyes.
