Antoine Griezmann Reveals the Inspiration Behind His Goal Celebration for France

Published on: 29 June 2016

France and Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has been on fire at the Euros, and helped his country reach the quarter-final stage of the tournament by inspiring a 2-1 comeback with a brace against the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

Griezmann has since revealed that his goal celebration is based on hip-hop artist Drake's hit song 'Hotline Bling'.

When that hotline bling, it can only mean one thing...BET is calling you to pick up your #BETAwards, @Drake. pic.twitter.com/RNVdWQz8aw

The forward said that, due to a wave of emotion, he forgot to do it after scoring against Albania in the group stage, as well as after his equalising goal on Sunday. But he made sure not to forget following the winner against the Irish.

That's a dance from the video to Drake's Hotline Bling, said Griezmann, as reported by UEFA. I've been doing it when I score for Atlético and I should have done it when I scored against Albania, but the emotion was too much and I forgot about it.

The same thing happened when I equalised against Ireland. For the second goal, I remembered.
