Arsene Wenger is set to finally secure much-needed centre-back and striker reinforcements after Arsenal reportedly wrapped up deals to sign Deportivo striker Lucas Perez and Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi.

An offer for Perez of around £17m has been accepted, with Deportivo confirming on Thursday that the player had been given permission to miss Friday's game against Real Betis.

Meanwhile, Mustafi is set to join on a fee in excess of £35m, according to theBBC,with Wenger adding significantly to Granit Xhaka anddefender Rob Holding.

The two deals will take Arsenal's spending in this transfer window close to £100m but this is a decisive double swoop, with the Gunners adding an experienced and highly-rated centre-half and an exciting striker to provide competition for the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.

Wenger previously said he was not reluctant to spend money in this transfer window, as long as it was on the right players.

He said: "If we find the right player we will not be reluctant to spend big.

"If I just bought someone for £45m will I have done well?I do not understand why people say I am reluctant.

"Spending the money itself is not a quality. Spending it to buy the right, top-quality player is the quality."
