Arsenal Send Takuma Asano on Loan to Stuttgart While Shkodran Mustafi Set for Gunners Medical

Arsenal have confirmed that Japanese striker Takuma Asano, signed earlier this summer from current J-League champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima, has joined 2.Bundesliga side Stuttgart on loan for the duration of the 2016/17 campaign.

The Gunners failed to successfully obtain a work permit for the 21-year-old, who cost just £3m.

"We got the work permit turned down because he didn't cost £15m, that's one of the rules you have to know in England," Wenger drily commented last weekend.

"Therefore he has to go and play somewhere else."

A full international since 2015, Asano recently represented Japan at Under-23 level in the Olympic Games in Brazil. He scored twice in the competition but couldn't help his country beyond the group stage.

In terms of incoming transfer at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal are readying themselves to welcome German World Cup winning defender Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

According to Sky Sports, the 24-year-old former Everton youth player is due to arrive in England for a medical on Friday afternoon. It is expected that he will then sign a five-year contract.

Mustafi's arrival will help ease a defensive crisis that has caused the Gunners to struggle at the start of the 2016/17 season. A creaking back four kept a clean sheet against Leicester last weekend, but was stunned as Liverpool ran riot to score four in north London a week earlier.

Arsenal are also widely believed to be closing in on a £17m deal for Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez, described by some as the 'Spanish Jamie Vardy'.
