Youngster Kelechi Nwakali has revealed that Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu helped him earn a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Having impressed in the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, Nwakali was rated as one of the most promising young players in the world and Premier League giants Arsenal did not waste any time in snapping up the services of the promising Nigerian in September last year.

Nwakali has now spoken about his dream move to Arsenal and revealed that his uncle, Gunners legend Kanu, helped him earn a move to the Emirates Stadium after recommending his services to manager Arsene Wenger.

Speaking to Goal, the young midfielder said: "Kanu called me and said Arsenal wanted me; that the boss called him about me.

"He's been my mentor, a brother and a friend. He advised me to go and develop and prove who I am. He is my mentor and a friend. He calls me every day and I get advice from him all the time.

"From a young age I've dreamt of playing for Arsenal. I think God made it easy for me because that has been my dream team.

"Arsenal have a lot of players and the only way you can play for the first team is through hard work. It's my first time in that position but the coach decided that I should play there.

"As a young player I have a lot to offer, but it's all about timing. The most important thing is that I believe I have the ability to play in a lot of positions."

Nwakali is currently on loan with Dutch Eerste Divisie side MVV Maastricht.
