Atsu is the perfect replacement for Chadli at West Brom

Published on: 30 July 2018

Following West Brom’s relegation from the Premier League last season, and Nacer Chadli’s eye-catching displays for Belgium at this summer’s World Cup, the 28-year-old was always likely to exit the Hawthorns this summer.

He is better than Championship level, and deserves to be playing top flight football. It now looks as though he may soon be doing so with Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig.

Chadli’s departure would mean yet another name added to the long list of players that Baggies boss Darren Moore must seek to replace this summer.

The exodus from the club has already seen Jonny Evans, Ben Foster and James McClean, amongst others, move on to pastures new during this transfer window.

Transfermarkt value Chadli at £13.5 million, so the funds raised from his sale should at least be sufficient to bring in his replacement with.

Darren Moore should target Newcastle United’s Christian Atsu to be that signing.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has already admitted that he’ll have to sell players before he can bring any new faces in, as reported by The Sun.

West Brom should seek to capitalise upon this situation by making a move for Atsu.

The 26-year-old winger was a regular at St James’ Park last season but struggled to replicate the form he showed in the Championship.

The return of Kenedy, on loan from Chelsea, makes it likely that Atsu’s game time shall be far more limited for the Magpies this time around.

The 26-year-old could well be open to a move elsewhere in order to secure regular football, and with Benitez needing to sell, West Brom should pounce.

At Championship level, Atsu has impressed in the past, having notched 5 goals and racked up 3 assists over the course of Newcastle’s 2016/17 title-winning campaign.

He’d be an excellent addition to West Brom’s squad, and with a valuation of only £5.4 million on Transfermarkt, he appears to be within reach for the Baggies.
