While exams are certainly a frustrating component in life for most of us, one Bundesliga footballer is having to miss a European cup tie due to tests.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz will play no part in his side's Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid as he has exams.

The teenager, who turns 18 in June, became the youngest footballer in Bundesliga history when he appeared in the 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen in October.

Personnel situation:

Leverkusen are already without a host of first-team players, with the likes of Jonathan Tah,Stefan Kießling and Lars Bender all ruled out of the trip to the Vicente Calderon Stadium through injury.

Omer Toprak is also out andBenjamin Henrichs is suspended, meaning Leverkusen will need to pull out an extraordinary performance to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Most of us have to give up a little free time in order to be successful in exams, but spare a thought for Havertz, who instead of battling Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco and Diego Godin in Spain will be stuck staring at text books instead.
