Bayern handed Vidal injury woe

Published on: 18 June 2018

Bayern Munich's hopes of completing the treble this season have been hit by the loss of Arturo Vidal "for a while" as he requires knee surgery.

The Bavarian giants have already clinched their sixth successive Bundesliga title, while they are set to face Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final on Tuesday.

However, Vidal will not feature in the game after he suffered a setback in his first training session since he sustained a knee injury against Sevilla in the Champions League earlier this month.

He's already on his way to Augsburg. He needs keyhole surgery on his knee. Arturo will definitely be out of action for a while.

And, as he requires keyhole surgery on his fresh problem, it is very unlikely that the Chile international will line up against Real Madrid in next Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg.

"He slipped and went down," boss Jupp Heynckes said on Bayern's official website.

"I've just spoken to (team) doctor (Hans-Wilhelm) Muller-Wohlfahrt on the phone. He's had an MRI scan. Arturo has a loose body in his knee. That's preventing him stretching.

"He's already on his way to Augsburg. He needs keyhole surgery on his knee. Arturo will definitely be out of action for a while."

Bayern are 8/15 to win at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, while they are available at 1/1 to win the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena next week.
