Betting charge may not stop Barton from playing for Burnley

Joey Barton could be allowed to play for Burnley for the rest of the season despite a betting charge that comes with a potentially lengthy ban.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to the FA last month of placing 1,260 football bets over a 10-year period.

A private hearing, on Barton's request, was arranged for March 8, but it had to be postponed after the FA's chief investigator fell ill.

Barton, who joined the Clarets for a second spell in January, is eligible to represent Sean Dyche's side until April at the very least making him available to continue playing for most of the remainder of the season.
