The Black Queens of Ghana suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in the opener of the maiden edition of the WAFU Women’s Cup of Nations tournament.
Ivory Coast Captain Dominique Thiamalé scored the only goal of the match in the fiftieth minute.
The Black Queens created several chances but could not capitalize handing the Ivorians all three points.
Ghana strikers Jane Ayiayam and Priscilla Okyere all failed to find the back of the net after spurning all the chances.
Ghana will take on Niger in a must win encounter on Friday.
