Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij has signed a new contract with Lazio.

Liverpool were reported to be chasing the Dutch international during the summer transfer window and are said to have had a bid worth £30 million rejected by the Italian club for his services.

Italian outlet II Messaggero has claimed that de Vrij has finally signed a new deal with Lazio. which will see him pocket a significant wage increase. The club are preparing to announce the deal over the coming days.

However despite what has happened, Liverpool could still attempt to sign the player.

It is unlikely that Jurgen Klopp's side will be troubled by the new release clause in de Vrij's contract which is said to be valued at £27 million which is £3 million more than what Lazio had been demanding during the summer.

The Liverpool defence has proven to be shaky at times and the addition to de Vrij will definitely boost the side.
