Brendan Rodgers Urges Manchester City's Joe Hart to Join Liverpool

Published on: 25 August 2016

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes Joe Hart would be making an excellent career move if he left Manchester City to join the Anfield club.

Rodgers told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfaston talkSPORT that he felt Liverpool's history could allow Hart to feel as though he was at a club worthy of his stature, and that he would settle in just fine on Merseyside because of the players already in Jurgen Klopp's team.

Liverpool could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the final days of the transfer window as summersigning Loris Karius broke his hand in preseason, whileSimon Mignolet has not done enough to convince Klopp he is worthy of the number one spot long term.

Hart has been told by City manager Pep Guardiola that he is free to leave the club if he wishes, and Hart has lost his place in the team since the start of the season.

His chances of reclaiming the place are all but over after City completed the signing of Barcelona's Claudio Bravo earlier this week, and Hart played in what appeared to be a farewell City game against Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday.

And Rodgers, who currently manages Celtic, thinks Hart would be making a good move if he joined the Reds: "Liverpool is a great club and if his future is not at Manchester City and he's got the chance to go to Liverpool then I'm sure it is something that he would look at seriously.

You've got Simon (Mignolet) there and the goalkeeper they brought in who is injured but I've always rated Joe “ I think he is an outstanding ˜keeper.

His close friend James Milner is there as well “ ˜Milly' and Joe are very close. It will be interesting because it's a great club and if he is to go there then it would be a great move for Joe.
