Medeama SC playmaker, Malik Akowuah, says he cannot wait to join Congolese giants, Tout Puissant (TP) Mazembe, who have officially written to express interest in his services. According to the skillful midfielder, Mazembe have great prospects, explaining why he relishes the chance to join forces with the Ghanaian quintet of Daniel Nii Adjei, Yaw Frimpong, Richard Kissi Boateng, Solomon Asante and Gladson Awako to win more laurels for the club.

“I am ready to join TP Mazembe and I pray that the negotiations with my bosses work out well. TP Mazembe is a big club in Africa and their officials spoke to me after our game against them. It is every player’s dream to move on so if this chance has come I will take it. Also, it will help my club to raise funds.”

The Tarkwa-based club is cash-strapped and that has taken a toll on their African campaign this year, leading to unpaid bonuses to players, among others.

However, the player said his desire to join Mazembe was not due to the current financial challenges facing Medeama but only wished to progress in his career.

“It is not about the financial situation facing the club and I don’t also have any problem with management. I love Medeama but I just want to take this great opportunity to make progress in my career,” he explained.

Akowuah, the livewire of Medeama, was phenomenal during his side’s CAF Confederation Cup Group A opener against TP Mazembe a month ago in Lubumbashi where he scored a classic goal to crown an outstanding performance.

The player’s exceptional performance in the said match, which the Ghanaians lost 3-1, pushed officials of the Congolese club to put in a bid for his services to strengthen their midfield department.

Meanwhile, the team are back to prepare for their next Group A match against Young Africans of Tanzania at Essipong next Tuesday, having drawn 1-1 in the first leg in Dar es Salaam.
