Capello: Higuain to leave Juventus after Cristiano Ronaldo move

Published on: 10 July 2018

Former Juventus and Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing will bring an end to Gonzalo Higuain’s stay at the Turin giants.

The Portuguese star completed his sensational €100 million move to the Serie A champions on Tuesday, a switch that will see him net €30m a campaign.

Capello believes Ronaldo will now be the focal point of the attack, and that Higuain will have to make way as a result – with Chelsea a likely landing spot.

“Higuain will leave,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “[Mario] Mandzukic is enough.

“[Maurizio] Sarri is waiting with open arms for the Argentine at Chelsea. I didn’t really expect [Ronaldo] to join, as there were some voices from Madrid suggesting the contrary, but it was a planned move by Real.

“I have to pay my compliments to [Giuseppe] Marotta and [Andrea] Agnelli: this is the signing of the century for world football.”

Capello expanded on his praise for the move, stating that the financial benefits Juventus stand to receive justify the move.

“He will make the difference, but along with that, this is very important for all of Italian football,” he added.

“The investment will provide financial gains for Juventus, as he is money-machine for himself and the club.

“He has transformed over the course of his career, from a winger to a centre-forward and I think Juve will play him there.”
