Chelsea Ace Hints Duo Could Depart for La Liga Giants & Provides Update on Own Future With Blues

Published on: 13 March 2017

Diego Costa has hinted that Chelsea may struggle to keep hold of key Belgian duo Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Blues striker, who appeared set to complete a shock move to the Chinese Super League in January, stated his belief that his team-mates may not be able to resist the allure of playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona if the La Liga giants come calling in the close season.

Courtois has consistently revealed his love for the city of Madrid after spending three years on loan at Real's local rivals Atletico, while Hazard has been linked with switches to the Bernabeu and the Nou Camp thanks to his revitalised form this term.

As reported byESPN FCafter Chelsea's 1-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Manchester United, Costa was quizzed on the futures of his fellow players, and the Spain international did not exactly play down them staying at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "We know Courtois loves Spain, his family lives there, he's a great goalkeeper and (Real) Madrid needs people like that.

"It will be bad news for Chelsea if Real Madrid sign Hazard and Courtois. Eden is the best, he's top. Barcelona and Real Madrid will have their eye (on him) and if a team like these knock on the door you have to think about it. It is normal that they love him but hopefully he will not leave."

Courtois and Hazard are contracted to Chelsea until June 2019 and June 2020 respectively, and both have been impervious as Antonio Conte looks set to lead the Londoners to a second Premier League title in three years.

Their displays for the seeming champions-elect has led to widespread speculation that Real and Barca could swoop for them, with the former constantly linked with making big money moves for the goalkeeper and forward when the window re-opens on July 1.

Costa, meanwhile, was also asked about his own future with Chelsea. The striker appeared to have his head turned by the riches on offer in the Far East at the turn of the year, and rumours have also spread about a possible return to Atletico in the near future.

His future at the club had appeared to be over after Costa allegedly clashed with Conte about the gossip surrounding his supposed departure - conjecture Conte poured scorn on at the end of the January transfer window.

The 28-year-old agreed with his manager's assessment, and revealed his intent to stay with the current league leaders.

He added: "At the Atleti I lived a great moment, and this year I'm feeling very good¦ There was a lot of talk about going to China, but you see, here I am."
