Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen is believed to have rejected the offer ofa new contract as he holds out for more money, although it is thought that the player is still keen to commit his long-term future to the club.
According to the London Evening Standard, Eriksen currently earns just £30,000-per-week and is seeking a significantly improved salary that would bring him more in line with the rest of Spurs' key players and top earners.
The newspaper cites Harry Kane on £50,000 weekly, Mousa Dembele on £65,000, Erik Lamela on £70,000 and Hugo Lloris on £80,000 as the bracket that Eriksen appears to be aiming for.
Talks between the Danish international, the youngest player at the 2010 World Cup, and Spurs officials have been ongoing for several months already. There is, however, no immediate rush for the time being, with two years before Eriksen would become a free agent.
There is also promising and reassuring talk of optimism from both sides of the negotiating table - the 24-year-old has been linked with European giants such as Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus before now.
Eriksen's request to be paid alongside the likes of Kane and Lloris are certainly understandable. He's scored 30 goals in all competitions since joining from Ajax in the summer of 2013 and remains the primary creative influence in Mauricio Pochettino's strongest XI.
Eriksen was also second in the Premier League's assists charts last season, registering 13 behind only Mesut Ozil's final tally of 18.
