Ghana U17 female team coach Evans Adotey has described their qualification from the group stage to the knockout stage of the ongoing FIFA U17 Women's World Cup as a great achievement. The Black Maidens after enduring a difficult start managed to win their last two group games to seal a place in the knockout face of the competition.

The team lost 5-0 in their opening game against Japan but came back strongly to defeat a highly-rated USA side in their second game 2-1 before beating Paraguay 1-0 n Saturday.

“We had a poor start to this tournament, but we recovered and we’ve managed to pick up six points in a really tough group and qualify for the quarter-finals.

“This is a great achievement for us. My job has consisted of mentally preparing and encouraging my players. We knew Paraguay would be difficult opponents because, although they’d had two heavy defeats, they were going to come out and try to end the tournament on a positive note.
