Courtois waiting to choose

Published on: 15 July 2018

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois says he will see what is on offer from Chelsea before making a decision about his long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old has just helped Belgium finish in third place at World Cup 2018 and is now ready to head back to his club, where he is about to enter the final year of his current contract.

I feel happy at Chelsea, it's not that I necessarily want to leave.

And Courtois has yet to make any firm decisions about whether to extend his time with the Blues, or opt for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

He told reporters: "I will go back and I will see what they want and how they say it. Obviously, with this World Cup, I think what was on the table is different than what I can have now.

"In this World Cup I have ignored all the speculation, all the rumours. But now, in the next few days, I will have a chat with my agent and see what Chelsea told him, and then we will talk.

"But I feel happy at Chelsea, it's not that I necessarily want to leave."

Courtois, who has won 65 caps for his country, joined Chelsea in the summer of 2011, but was immediately loaned out to Atletico Madrid, where he spent the next three seasons.

Following his return to the Blues in the summer of 2014, he quickly established himself as the first choice at Stamford Bridge and has now racked up 154 first-team appearances for the Londoners.

Chelsea can be backed at 14/1 to win the Premier League title next season, while the Blues are 4/6 to finish in the top four.
