Dede Ayew supplies assist as West Ham stun Spurs to secure title hopes

Black Stars deputy captain Andre Ayew supplied an inadvertent assist as West Ham united deflated Tottenham Hotspurs faint title hopes.

The Hammers ensured that their Premier League status, next season, was secured with a hard-fought win over Tottenham Hotspur, at the London Arena.

In securing the win West Ham also severely damaged Tottenham`s chances of catching Chelsea in the run-in for the 2016 / 2017 Premier League title.

Tottenham arrived in East London on a long streak of winning games whereas the Hammers had just drawn their last two games 0-0.

West Ham were put on the back-foot in the first-half by a Tottenham side looking to edge in front, but they found the Hammers keeper, Adrian, in fine form. Recently restored to the first team Adrian made fine saves to deny both Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

As the game opened up in the second half the Hammers were looking to catch Tottenham on the counter-attack. In the sixty-sixth minute the ploy worked a treat when a move saw some pressure created and when the Tottenham defence failed to clear their ranks, Manuel Lanzini was on hand to smash home the loose ball from close-range.

The London Stadium erupted in a cacophony of noise and although Tottenham fought back, Adrian wasn`t to be beaten with their best chance of the half falling to Son but once again Adrian couldn`t be beaten.

Three points to the Hammers with a result that might just finish off the speculation that Slaven Bilic`s future may be in doubt.
