Former Inter Milan forward Diego Milito has expressed his belief that club captain Mauro Icardi is now a 'great striker.'

The Argentine was instrumental as the Nerazzurri won their first treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010, scoring twice in the Champions League final victory against Bayern Munich.

And he has heaped praise on his compatriot, who has top scored for Inter with 17 Serie goals so far this campaign.

Mauro Icardi has now scored 1⃣9⃣goals and assisted 8⃣in all competitions for Inter this season!

Mauro is proving to be a great striker, Milito said on Rai Italia - viaFootball Italia.

At 24-years-old he's doing really well at a big team like Inter. I hope he'll continue on this path, because he's a great striker. He certainly has room for improvement, but he's young and he's doing well.

Milito also added his thoughts on Inter's season, which has considerably improved since the arrival of Stefano Pioli. The new coach has led the Italian giants to ten wins from 14 Serie A games, only losing against the top three of Juventus, Roma and Napoli.

The gap to the teams at the top is quite wide, but I see a good Inter. This is a young team, which is growing," Milito said.

It's especially important to win games like the Cagliari one, because it's those ones which allow you to achieve certain objectives.

Everyone wants to win games against Juventus, Roma and Milan but it's important to find consistency of results to achieve the goals we all want.

Inter are currently sixth in the league standings, six points behind third placed Napoli.
