Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Black Stars midfielder Sarfo Gyamfi, has jumped to the defence of Coach Michael Osei and pleaded with the fans of the club to rather support and motivate him to deliver.

The swift call by Gyamfi followed the goalless draw between Asante Kotoko and Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last Sunday, which led to agitations by Kotoko supporters against Coach Michael Osei.

Moments after the match, a section of the Kotoko supporters, fuming with rage, converged at the main entrance of the stadium, singing war songs and casting aspersions at Michael Osei, while calling on him to resign with immediate effect.

To them, Osei was not competent enough to lead Kotoko to recapture its past glory, hence the need for him to resign for a more experienced coach to take over the club.

But speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview, Gyamfi said, “the team is still in good shape to end the season on a good note. It is a game of football; we wanted to win, but it didn’t turn out the way we wanted.

“But that doesn’t mean it’s entirely the fault of the coach, so I am pleading with the fans to be calm with both the players and coach. We are third and just two points behind the league leaders, so we are definitely still on track to achieve something good this season,” he noted.

Sarfo Gyamfi, however, assured the fans of a positive result when they travel to Cape Coast to face Dwarfs tomorrow in their next Premier League encounter.
