Dortmund role attracts Favre

Published on: 18 June 2018

Former Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Lucien Favre is pleased to be back in the Bundesliga after signing a two-year contract with Borussia Dortmund.

The 60-year-old recently left Nice and is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund have had three head coaches since Jurgen Klopp left the club in June 2015. Thomas Tuchel was in charge for two seasons before being succeeded by Peter Bosz last summer. Bosz only lasted six months though until he was axed with Peter Stoger taking the managerial reins for the second half of the campaign.

"Coaching Borussia Dortmund is a very attractive role that I want to undertake," said Favre, who coached Hertha Berlin before taking charge of Borussia Monchengladbach in 2011. He twice guided Borussia to the Champions League before resigning in September 2015. He succeeded Claude Puel at Nice in May 2016.

Favre added: "I would like to thank those responsible for placing their trust in me. Now, we will work together on the new team.

"BVB are one of the most interesting clubs in Europe and I'm looking forward to returning to the Bundesliga, which I know very well and have always kept in my mind during my two years in Nice."

After winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2010/11 and 2011/12, Dortmund have finished second, second, seventh, second and third in the last five seasons.

They will be playing in the Champions League next term after confirming their spot on the final day of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season despite a 3-1 defeat at Hoffenheim.

Borussia Dortmund are 7/1 to win the 2018/19 Bundesliga title, while Bayern Munich can be backed at 1/7 and RB Leipzig at 33/1.
