Favre pleased with Alcacer deal

Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre is confident that loan recruit Paco Alcacer will bring some much-needed goalscoring talent to his squad.

Twenty-four-year-old Spain international striker Alcacer has joined BVB on a season-long loan basis from Barcelona, with an option for a permanent deal in place if he impresses for the Bundesliga outfit.

Alcacer is a No.9, not a winger.

And Favre is pleased to have added an out-and-out frontman to his squad, despite having seen his side open their league campaign with a thumping 4-1 win at home to RB Leipzig at the weekend.

He told the club's official website: "Alcacer is a No.9, not a winger. He can combine with his team-mates but also makes runs behind the defence. His team-mates will have to get used to him."

Of the possibility of Alcacer making his Dortmund debut against Hannover on Friday evening, Favre admitted that he had yet to make a final decision.

The Swiss added: "He only fully trained (on Wednesday), so it's just one more session, but we will see. He did everything with the team."

Dortmund are priced at 4/7 to win at Hannover and are 15/2 to claim a 2-0 victory, while BVB are 8/11 to top the Bundesliga table at the end of the season if Bayern Munich were excluded.

Alcacer scored 15 goals in 50 appearances in his two seasons with Barca, having previously made his name with Valencia.

He has won 13 caps for Spain to date, scoring six goals, but missed out on selection for World Cup 2018 despite being his country's leading scorer in qualification.
