A statement on the said website reads: "AS Roma is pleased to confirm that the club has agreed a deal to sign defender Federico Fazio on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. The loan, which ends on 30 June 2017, is for a fixed fee of €1.2 million.
"The agreement also includes the option to make the transfer permanent, depending on the completion of certain sporting targets, for a fee of €3.2m."
The Argentinian defender joined Spurs from Sevilla for £8m two years ago, only to return to the Spanish club on loan in January of this year. He has enjoyed relative success in Spain, however, lifting the Europa League trophy and Copa del Rey.
He made 192 appearances for Sevilla before leaving for Tottenham in 2014.
I am very happy to join a great team like Roma, Fazio said to Roma's official website. I really want to start training and get to know my new teammates and coach.
At 30-years-old, it's unlikely that he'll be returning to White Hart Lane, and if all goes well for him, he just might end his career in Italy with Roma.
Spurs, meanwhile, already possess an accomplished back line, with Danny Rose, Kyle Walker Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen -who is back in training - readying themselves ahead of the opening Premier Leagueseason.
After coming close to winning the title under Mauricio Pochettino last term, they will be hoping to go the distance next year.
