Former Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is thought to be on Norwich City's wish-list to succeed the recently sacked Alex Neil, according to reports in theTelegraph.

Neil was surprisingly dismissed on Friday evening with the Canaries nine-points adrift of a place in the play-offs and the club's hopes of an immediate return to the Premier League seemingly fading fast.

With board members keen to swiftly appoint a new manager, Pardew is thought to be one of the leading candidates to take up the reigns at Carrow Road, having had previous experience of winning promotion to the top flight.

Whilst the55-year-old's CV suggests he is capable of overseeing a promotion push, his recent spell at Crystal Palace may be of some cause for concern, as he was unable to arrest the Eagles' worrying slide down the table and was subsequently dismissed days before Christmas last year.

Though Pardew is thought to be one of the front runners for the Norwich job, former Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett isalso said to be another candidate on the shortlist, as is Mark Warburton, who is thought to be attracting interest from Nottingham Forest.

Appointing a new manager may not be as straightforward as some at Carrow Road may hope however, as Neil's two-year spell was blighted by rumours of arguments between the manager and board over the club's transfer policy and changes made to the squad.

Norwich will now head into Saturday's meeting with Blackburn Rovers under the temporary leadership of Alan Irvine, as they look to win their first match in five attempts and resurrect their underwhelming season.
