Former FIFA U-17 world Cup winner Bashiru Gambo wants Paa Kwesi Fabin to maintain starting XI ahead of Niger clash

Former Black Starlets player Bashiru Gambo is calling on Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin to maintain the starting eleven against India in the round of 16 game against Niger.

The Black Starlets of Ghana progressed to the knockout phase of the competition after topping group A with two wins and a defeat, including a 4-0 thumping of host India.

Having started the tournament with two shaky performances against Colombia and Paraguay, Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin introduced Sulley Ibrahim, Bismarck Terry Owusu and Gabriel Laveh in the final group game, where Ghana cruised to a 4-0 win.

And the 1995, FIFA U-17 World Cup winner, who has been following the World Cup in India says the coach should keep faith in the side that defeated India.

“The boys he used against India and he got that impressive result, he should maintain that starting lineup,” Bashiru Gambo said on Happy FM. “From my experience in football you don’t change a winning team,” he added.

“For me I have observed that at the beginning of the tournament, most of the boys he used even against Mali at the Africa Junior Championship, most of them are on the bench,”

“I didn’t understand the motive behind that but he is the Coach and the one with the players in India,”

“But, I still maintain most of the boys from the Africa Junior Championship should be used so we can see how far we can go,” the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner concluded.

Ghana will face Niger on Wednesday in the round of 16 in Mumbai as they seek to win the FIFA world cup for the third time.

The Black Starlets defeated the same side in the semifinal of the Africa Junior Championship in Gabon earlier this year.
