Former Ghana U-17 World Cup winner Nii Odartey Lamptey insists Black Starlets play to impress scouts

Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has pointed out that the players of the national under-17 team are playing to impress scouts rather than as a team.

The Black Starlets lost their second game at the ongoing FIFA under-17 world Cup in India, by a lone goal, courtesy a second half strike from Ayo Akinola.

Ghana has labored at the tournament and look far from their best with many fans accusing the team of playing to the gallery.

The team that placed second at the Africa Junior Championship has struggled at the tournament and a former winner of the competition, Odartey Lamptey insists most of the players are playing to impress scouts.

However, the former Anderlect forward added the United States deserved the win in the game against the Black Starlets.

"The USA deserved to win the game, they were the better side," he said on Kwese TV.

"I don't know who they want to impress, I think this is what is causing the problem," he added.

Odartey Lamptey was part of the team that won Ghana’s first ever world cup at any stage, in 1991.

Ghana will next face host India, needing a win to progress.
