The former Chairman of Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari, said on Sunday that the home-based Super Eagles team had potentials to do well in the African Nations Championship qualifiers.

Mr. Maigari said in Port Harcourt that the Eagles 2-0 win over Stallions of Burkina Faso was a good result and should be sustained.

He said the home-based Eagles gave a good account of themselves in the match and the goal margin could have been more if they converted all the chances they had.

“It was a very good match and good result,, even though we lost several scoring chances.

“But, I am not worried because this is a starting point in the qualifiers and I believe the team will do better in future matches,” he said.

Mr. Maigari urged the team to be committed, determined and put more life in the game to win the second leg match against the Burkinabes.

“I am hopeful that the team will do well in the second leg match. They have potential to create chances and score goals,” he said.

Mr. Maigari also urged Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, to use home-based players in the new national team.

He said Nigeria is blessed with good talents playing in the local league who could be part of the Super Eagles.
