Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwasi Fabin is very confident his team can go all the way to win the U-17 Fifa World Cup slated for India next month.

The Black Starlets will open the championship against Colombia at the Stadium on October 6. They then face the USA and hosts India to complete their games in Group A.

A squad of 24 players is scheduled to fly out to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for the final leg of their preparations for the Fifa World Cup.

Fabin, whose team were beaten finalist at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, has had the opportunity to further strengthen his team since then.

The former Asante Kotoko trainer is positive his team can deliver Ghana a first U-17 title in 22 years.

“The last time we went to Africa, I said we wanted to get qualification but this time, we are aiming at winning the trophy.

“And I think we have the boys to do that.”

The coach also highlighted on the need for the team to be stocked with adequate medicines in order to keep his charges in shape throughout the competition.

“During the Afcon, it got to a point where we needed to even beg the players to go and play because they were down with malaria – about 8 of them.

“…I spoke to the [Sports] Minister about drugs to be able to cater for all these boys even before we leave for India so that that thing will not reoccur.”

The Black Starlets are making a return to the World stage after a 10-year absence.
