Ghana fails to qualify for CHAN 2018 after defeat to Burkina Faso

The Black Stars B failed to qualify for the Championship of African Nations for the second time running following a 2-1 defeat at home to Burkina Faso.

Ghana, who drew the first leg 2-2, failed to make the most of home advantage in Kumasi, suffering defeat to Burkina Faso in front of the home fans.

The local Black Stars were rocked by Burkinabe goals from Mohammed Sylla and Herman Nikiema inside 30 minutes at the Baba Yaro Stadium.

Substitute Felix Addo pulled one goal back for Ghana just before the hour, but the team could not find the second goal they desperately needed to force a penalty shootout.

Patrick Razak, Thomas Abbey and Isaac Twum came close to grabbing the equalizer but their efforts proved futile.

Burkina Faso qualified 4-3 on aggregate and will join 15 other countries at the biennial tournament, which Kenya will host from January 12 to February 4.

The team will now have to look forward to the West Africa Football Union Championship to be hosted in Ghana in September.
