Ghana forward Kevin Prince Boateng’s Bundesliga return ended in a 1-1 draw as Frankfurt were held by Freigburg in their league opener.

The Ghanaian came on the second half on 67 minutes to replace Japanese Daichi Kamada at the Schwarzwald-Stadion.

Boateng, who is not new to the Bundesliga having previously played for Schalke 04, Dortmund and Hertha Berlin nearly, got a debut goal but his header went wide.

Despite coming on in the 67th minute, Boateng was a constant threat to Freigburg’s defence.

Coach Nicko Kovac could start the Ghanaian international in the team’s next game against Wolfsburg at home.

The 30 year old joined Frankfurt on a three year deal following the termination of his contract with La Liga side Las Palmas.

The former A C Milan player was the club’s top scorer last season but ended his contract with the Canary Islanders citing personal reason.

The former Tottenham player was making his 99th appearance in the Bundesliga.
