Goodison win eases Pellegrini pressure

Manuel Pellegrini got his first Premier League win as West Ham manager after his side came out best in a 3-1 success over Everton at Goodison Park.

Andriy Yarmolenko's first goals for the club helped end West Ham's disastrous start to the season.

Yarmolenko scored twice inside 31 minutes before Gylfi Sigurdsson powered in a header from Jonjoe Kenny's cross, to get Everton into the contest just before the break.

The impressive Marko Arnautovic netted West Ham's third from close range just beyond the hour to take the sting from the Toffees response.

I have a lot of years here, I wasn't going to change for three or four results.

A fifth straight loss would have constituted West Ham's worst ever opening of a league campaign, ensuring birthday boy Pellegrini was relieved afterwards.

"I was not worried about my birthday today - I just wanted to win the game - it was the best gift my players could give me," said the Chilean on his 65th birthday.

"I think that we continued playing the same way we have done, but the best thing we did here, we went for the game from the first minute, we didn't wait for Everton to go.

"I have a lot of years here, I wasn't going to change for three or four results. We believe in what we are doing and we are not going to change. I said last time after we lost I will accept advice but I was not going to change what we are doing."

West Ham are 6/1 to defeat Chelsea next weekend. The Blues, with five wins from five games, are 1/2 while the draw is priced at 3/1.
