GPL Preview: WAFA to plot doom against Liberty Professionals

Published on: 24 April 2017

After a weekend broken up by MTN FA Cup matches, the Ghana Premier League bounces back in earnest on Wednesday across all league venues.

West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) will look to continue with their fine form in the league against Liberty Professionals when they host them at the RedBull Arena in Sogakope.

The Academy Boys have been superb at Home so far this season. Of six matches, they boast of five wins, one draw and lost none. That mostly can be credited to a great defensive record of two goals in those games and with Daniel Lomotey in rich vein of form, this looks a difficult proposition for Sellas Tetteh's men.

Liberty Professionals, meanwhile, are bad travellers this season losing four, drawing two and conceding eight goals in the process.

Both sides met at the same venue last season where it finished 1-0 in favour of the Academy Boys.

The Homesters currently occupy the first position whereas the Visitors sit ninth on the league Table.

A win for WAFA will keep them at the top of the league log while a win for Liberty will see them climb up to sixth.

Daniel Lomotey is WAFA's top scorer this season with five goals with Liberty's Bernard Arthur having four goals to his credit.

Accra Great Olympics will be heading to Tema to face Tema Youth at the Tema Stadium. The Harbour boys have been terrific so far this season at Home beating the likes of Hearts of Oak, Bolga All Stars and drawing with Ashanti Gold, Medeama, Wa All Stars and will be hoping to add to their Home victories when they face-off with Tom Strand's men at their own backyard.

Bechem United will come up against an Ebusua Dwarfs side who have gained a bit of confidence after two positive results at the Golden City Park as Elmina Sharks welcome Inter Allies to the Nduom Sports Complex.

In other premier league fixtures, Hearts of Oak will draw some inspiration from their FA Cup 2-1 victory over Sporting Mirren as they travel to the North to battle with New boys Bolga All Stars at the Wa Utretch Park whilst Bottom Ashanti Gold take on Medeama SC at the Lenclay Stadium in Obuasi. The Miners have struggled all season and will be relying on the experience and strenght of their topman, Hans Kwofie to inspire them to victory against Evans Adotey's men.

Elsewhere, Wa All Stars will hope to deny Berekum Chelsea the opportunity to climb to third when both slug it out at the Golden City Park in Berekum whereas Asante Kotoko will also be attempting to produce a response to last weekend's 1-0 defeat Wa All Stars as they rub shoulders with gritty Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
