Hamburg show earns Titz praise

Published on: 18 June 2018

Head coach Christian Titz was full of praise for his Hamburg players after they claimed a third win in four to boost their Bundesliga survival hopes.

A 3-1 victory at fellow strugglers Wolfsburg left HSV just two points adrift of safety with two games to play, with Titz delighted with a strong performance in such an important game.

He told the club's official website: "We saw what a relegation battle is all about. The first few minutes were scrappy, but we managed to score twice before the break.

"We knew Wolfsburg would come out all guns blazing in the second half and our plan was to hit them on the counter-attack.

Their goal made things a bit tighter, but I have to praise my team - it was a tough game and I'm delighted with the win."

Meanwhile, Titz dished out particular praise to USA forward Bobby Wood, who converted a penalty to open the scoring just before half-time against Wolfsburg, having previously not found the net since August last year.

He added: "I'm massively pleased for Bobby. He has rewarded himself for how well he has trained in the last couple of weeks and he had two good chances before his goal too."

Next up for Hamburg is a trip to Eintracht Frankfurt next Saturday and they are 11/4 to win that game, with a draw priced at 14/5 and a 1-0 victory for the visitors 11/1.
