Ibrahim Tanko denies confrontation between boss Appiah and Andre Ayew

Ghana assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has refuted reports that deputy skipper Andre Dede had a confrontation with his boss Kwesi Appiah after their World Cup qualifier with Congo in Kumasi.

Ghana with high expectations going into the game could only settle for a 1-1 draw with the Red Devils at the Baba Yara Stadium last Friday.

The result left Ghana's hopes of making a fourth consecutive World Cup finals hanging by a thread.

Andre Ayew 's performance on the day not impressive, hence the coach's decision to pull him out.

Reports emanated that, the West Ham United player wasn't happy with his substitution and confronted coach Appiah.

But Ibrahim Tanko says nothing like that happened.

"It's not true that he [Andre Ayew] confronted Kwesi Appiah on why players like Wakaso Mubarak and Agyemang Badu were not given a call up for the game against Congo in the World Cup qualifiers," Tanko told Agyenkwa FM.

"No player determines who must be selected to represent the country and who shouldn't make the squad. If Ayew had indeed confronted coach Appiah as many people have reported, he would've told me of such incident.

"Meanwhile, he has not and nobody in the technical team has talked about such things so it's not true that happened after the draw against Congo in Kumasi," he added.

Ghana recovered from the shock of the first leg and defeated Congo 5-1 in the return fixture on Tuesday thanks to a hat-trick by Thomas Teye Partey and a brace from Richmond Boakye Yiadom.
