Inter Milan Chief Says Mauro Icardi Could Leave the Club This Summer

Published on: 30 July 2016

Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has admitted captain and star striker Mauro Icardi could be heading for the San Siro Exit door this summer.

Napoli have already had a £45.5m bid rejected for the 23-year-old, according to Sky Italia, but the Naples based club have the funds to go back in with a higher bid after selling Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus for £75m, and Thohir has not ruled out the possibility of Icardi eventually leaving.

"We are all hoping to receive an even better offer, he told Class CNBC when asked if he had rejected a bid this week, as quoted in the Daily Star.

"At this time Mauro is an important player for us, he is our captain.

However, it is a dynamic market."

Along with Napoli, Arsenal were also rumoured to be interested in the Inter Milan No.9 with reports suggesting wife and agent Wanda Nara had previously flown into London to have talks with the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger is in the market for a striker due to a long-term injury to Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud's likely absence for the beginning of the season, but the 66-year-old has been left frustrated in his pursuit.

Jamie Vardy rejected a move to the Emirates earlier this summer, while it now appears that the Gunners have been priced out of a move for Icardi.

The club have since turned their attention to Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette, but the Ligue 1outfit are determined to keep their star man and have already rejected Arsenal's opening bid of £29m.
