Italy face Sweden as World Cup European Play-offs drawn

Published on: 18 October 2017

The World Cup qualification playoffs have been drawn with four time World Champions Italy set to face a tough test against Sweden.

Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will meanwhile fancy their chances of making it to the World Cup after being drawn to play against Switzerland and Denmark respectively.

Nothern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill and his Republic of Ireland boss Martin will be relieved that they will not have to face off against Italy. In the other game, Croatia will face Greece.

The game tie between Italy and Sweden will have to go down as the highlight of the playoffs. Both teams are highly talented but flawed and were rather unlucky to have been placed in the same qualification group as Spain and France respectively.

The Swedes however, are a very young and inexperienced side who have missed the last two World Cups and this will make the Italians the favourites.
