John Antwi wins Egyptian League Title with Al Ahly

In-form Ghanaian striker, John Antwi has won his first top-flight silverware helping African powerhouses, Al Ahly to a historic 38th league title with a 2-1 win over Ismaily on Friday.

Ahly secured their 38th Egyptian league title with 76 points, with two games to spare on Friday night after beating Ismailyin a week 32 fixture of the 2015/16 Egypt Premier League season.

The triumph made it 102 major trophies for the football super powerhouse, as they have won the Egyptian national league 38 times, the Egypt Cup 35 times, the Egypt Super Cup 9 times, CAF Champions league 8 times, CAF Super Cup 6 times, Cup Winners’ Cup 4 times, CAF Confederations Cup once and Afro-Asian Cup once. ahlyy Ahly have now won nine of the last 10 Egyptian league titles with Zamalek winning the crown last season. The Red Devils have also now won twenty-six league titles more than close rivals Zamalek who have won the national championship twelve times.

Ahly won the title thanks to Zamalek’s disappointing draw with Al Masry as the Red Devils widened the gap between them and Zamalek to an unassailable seven points. Zamalek (67 points) will finish as runners-up with just two rounds of matches to complete the season.

In the game, Ahly’s Momen Zakaria scored first for his side in the 9th minute before Walid Soliman made it 2-0 for Martin Jol‘s side with a sublime freekick three minutes after Zakaria’s opener.

Ismaily pulled one back in the 18th minute through another Antwi's Ghanaian compatriot Emmanuel Banahene who beat Egyptian international goalie, Sherif Ekramy.

The title represents the first league title for Dutch and former Tottenham Hotspurs manager Martin Jol in his twenty-year coaching career.
