Kotoko needs quality goal poachers - Joe Hendricks

Published on: 23 February 2018

Former Asante Kotoko captain, Joe Hendricks has called on the management of club to recruits better striker ahead of the GPL campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors struggled to find the back of the net in the 2016/17 GPL season scoring only 23 goals in the entire season.

In their first league of the CAF Confederations Cup held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the Reds squandered three penalties before Yakubu Mohammed climbing off the bench to convert a late penalty.

With a slight lead ahead of the second league in Congo, the FA Cup champions failed to progress to the next round of the CAF inter-club competition losing 6-7 on penalties to the Congolese club on Wednesday.

However, Hendricks has called on the team to purchase quality strikers before the new season kick start.

"I think Kotoko players did quite well despite their exit from the Confederations cup’," he told Cape Coast-based ATL FM.

"Notwithstanding, I also believe that the current strikers available to the team are not prolific enough to help the club win laurels especially, the forthcoming Ghana premier league.

"People say there are no quality strikers in Ghana for now and  I think the management should use the money and assets they promised the players  prior to the start of the CAF Confederations cup to go outside the country and buy two or three quality strikers to be able to compete for the forthcoming Ghana premier league title’," he added.
