Kovac urges Rudy to move on

Published on: 16 August 2018

Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac has told versatile Germany international Sebastian Rudy that he is free to leave the Bundesliga champions.

Rudy only moved to the Allianz Arena 12 months ago and made 35 appearances in all competitions for Bayern last season.

However, Kovac, who took charge at the club this summer, has quickly made it clear that Rudy will be wasting his time if he stays for a second season, insisting that he has plenty of other options in midfield.

We are really well-catered for in midfield with numerous top players in that position.

He told reporters: "Sebastian is a player who wants to play a lot - he can leave if he agrees terms.

"We are really well-catered for in midfield with numerous top players in that position. They cannot all play at the same time, therefore it makes sense that he looks elsewhere."

Rudy, who was a member of the national team squad at world Cup 2018, joined Bayern from 1899 Hoffenheim, having started his career with VfB Stuttgart.

He also showed up well as Germany won the Confederations Cup last year, before helping Bayern claim the German league title for a record 28th time.

His path to the Bayern first team was made more difficult by the recruitment of Leon Goretzka from Schalke, who are one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in signing the unwanted Rudy.

Meanwhile, Bayern are 7/1 to win the Champions League this season, while Schalke are 1/1 to finish in the top four in the Bundesliga.
