Lionel Messi has told Barcelona presidentJosep Maria Bartomeuthat he will sign a new contract with the club,Mundo Deportivohave reported.

The club's record goal scorer has been the subject of rumours of discontent this season, with his current deal set to expire in 2018.

But it appears he is now ready to commit his long-term future to Barcelona with a contract reportedly worth £35m per year.

Bartomeu is believed to have spoken to Messi's father and agent Jorge, and an agreement has been reached between the two parties.

A new contract would put to an end any suggestions of a Barcelona exit for Messi, and increase the likelihood that he will see out the remainder of his illustrious career with the club he joined in 2003.

His teammate and fellow forward Neymar expressed his confidence that Messi would put pen to paper following Wednesday's historic comeback against PSG.Leo will renew," the Brazilian said in the hysteric aftermath. "That is for sure.

Messi's current contract, if not renewed, could allow him to leave the club in January, so Barcelona are understandably keen to tie up their talisman.

Approaching his 30th birthday, Messi has been as prolific as ever this season, scoring 39 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga champions.
