Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Everton don't have the bottle to win derbies.

Ronald Koeman's Toffees go to Anfield on Saturday not having won at the home of their deadly local rivals since 1999.

Carragher told Grand Old Team TV: “Koeman has got to change the mentality of the club, the players and even the supporters.

“I think there's that feeling 'oh we can't beat Liverpool because the referee will give them something.'

"There's that negative mentality. When you would shake hands before the game, I'd be like a lunatic, steam coming out of my ears.

“The Everton players would be saying 'hiya Carra' and I'd think 'the game's kicking off in a minute, why are you even speaking to me?'

“I wasn't saying 'alright Ossie, alright Hibbo' or 'alright Leighton.' It's like a boxer coming out and wanting to shake hands with other boxer, and it's like 'no, I want to punch you.'

“I always felt we had the advantage mentally and physically. I loved the derby — I could have played in them every week, getting myself into a frenzy.

“You get the hatred, thinking 'who's going to get it, who's said something to wind you up?'

“There's nothing worse than getting bullied by your rivals, and that's one thing I am proud of in my time in derbies."
