Liverpool are closely monitoring Kylian Mbappe's situation at AS Monaco.
The Liverpool Echo says suggestions in Spain that the Reds had tabled a rejected bid of 100m euros for the 18-year-old striker were premature but the club are monitoring his situation with a desire to get involved if he decides to move on from the Champions League semi-finalists.
Staying at Monaco remains an option for a player who lit up Europe with his performances last season while Real Madrid are seen as favourites for his signature should he decide to leave Ligue One behind.
The Reds have made their interest well known to Monaco and the player in the knowledge that things can change quickly in any transfer - just as they found out in their own pursuit of Virgil van Dijk.
At this stage the Reds would appear outsiders in the race but that could look very different if Mbappe feels his opportunities would be limited at Real Madrid.
