Manchester City fullback Benjamin Mendy says manager Pep Guardiola convinced him about surgery with a Champions League promise.
Writing in his new monthly column with The Times, Mendy revealed after suffering his ACL tear: "I told Pep after I got my results I would only have surgery if he promised me City would be in the Champions League semi-finals when I come back. That is our checkpoint. That is where we will meet again.
"I've been training seven days a week as I want to get back as soon as possible.
"The injury happened almost five weeks ago, but I only saw it back for the first time this week."
