English Premier League club, Manchester United has sent words of commiserations to friends and families of some 30 Nigerian fans who lost their lives while watching the club’s Europa League game against Anderlecht on Thursday.

Reports from the West African country suggest that a sizable number of fans gathered in Calabar to watch Manchester United’s quarter-final clash with the Belgian side but lost their lives after a high-tension cable fell inside the viewing centre.

Eyewitnesses say about 80 fans were present at the centre but many were fortunate no to be electrocuted.

And upon learning about the sad news, the English giants took to Twitter to commiserate with the families of the dead fans.

The club wrote: “Our thoughts go out to the United fans, their friends and families affected by the tragedy in Calabar, Nigeria, yesterday.”
