Marco Verratti Claims Barcelona Players Told Him Game Was 'Finished' Before Incredible Comeback

Paris Saint-Germain midfield ace Marco Verratti, has said a Barcelona player told him the game was over moments before their unthinkable comeback.


Barca progressed 6-5 on aggregate thanks to three goals in the last seven minutes, but apparently someplayers had already resigned themselves todefeat that after Cavani's heart-breaking strike in the 63rd minute, according to reports in theDaily Mail.

Luis Enrique's side took a three goal lead on the night, butafter the Parisians fired one past Marc-André ter Stegen Catalanhopes and dreams seemed all but over, andVerrattisaid he discussed the impending defeatwithBarca players.

"With Cavani's goal, we gained some peace, I then spoke to the players of the Barca, they told me that it was finished," he said.

"Take three goals in seven minutes, I cannot find an explanation, it's football.This is a game I will never forget. I hope it will serve as a lesson to everyone."

A bitter lesson indeed for the Paris side, who conceded three goals in seven minutes to eradicate ambitions of this years European tournament. Goals from Suarez, Messi, Neymar and substitution Sergi Roberto sealed the game off as an emphatic 6-1 victory on the night for the Catalans.

Verratti added: "'We must find the strength to raise our heads. You have to be men. We are all sad. We lost 6-1, it's not because of the referee. We are primarily responsible."

The victoriousBarcelona now await the second round of games to decipherquarter-final opponents, with the draw taking place on the FridayMarch17.
